Have you ever noticed that the monsters in horror movies are not just incredibly ugly and fearful, but also incredibly irrational? The are so aggressive as if they had no psychology.

Take for example a movie I’ve watched some time ago: Descent. There movie monsters live in caves and look like Gollum, boiled in geyser and wall-eyed. With desperate sqweal they attack everyone and everything indiscriminately. For example, a lonely monster with no doubt assaults five athletic women. Moreover, when the prey is dead, the monster continues chasing another. By the way, this hunting vehemens can easily lead you to death by hunger. Because while you are running around trying to catch someone else, the abandoned corpse will soon be eaten up by the smarter animals.

There are no animals with this kind of behavior. And the reason is simple: it is impossible to survive behaving so dumbly. Nevertheless, the horror movies swarm with aggressive dumb monsters, which strive not for survival, food and reproduction, but for chasing and killing a human being. And the watchers (including me) feel dread despite oddity of being afraid of such impossible and ridiculously attached to humnan creatures. This means that in all these similar images people see something real, real and very fearful. But if there is nothing of this kind in the animal world, we can make the only possible conclusion: this dumb aggressive monster in fact is human being.

Indeed, human can seem to be that. But in one case: when he or she is being observed by a selfish human. For an egoist all people seem to have no rationality, inner logic and personal goals which are not centered on egoist. No matter what a human does, it is evident for an egoist that this was done either for egoist’s benefit or in order to harm him or her, or it was a sensless deed. For example, if you step on an egoist’s foot, egoist immediately concludes that you have done it intentionally. Therefore, you are a foe and must be treated like a foe.

Egoism leads to stupidity. The whole world is perceived by an egoist evolving around him. All the events are centered around him and have no other aim and sence then harming him or providing benefits for him. And it is the nature of the world we see in horrorr movies. There human – main character of horror movie – happens to be the main target and meaning of monster’s existence. They even cannot exist without human: she knowingly or accidentally brings them to life, as in “Alien” and they happen to be absolutely unadapted for life without human. Therefore they strive for her, as if she was of the greatest value. In this striving they surmount obstacles and even risk their good-for-nothing monster’s life. Egoist takes for granted and with no doubt the existence of beings with those characteristics. Because in horror movies he sees truthful reflection of his own life experience.

So horror movies are in fact just a projection of selfish outlook, and the monsters are us, seen from each other’s perspective.
